Message from Dean Sanford

I hope you are enjoying your summer and finding some time for rest and relaxation. Here at UMMC, in May, we graduated a large class of 428, including 12 post-graduate certificates, from the summer, fall and spring semesters. It was exciting to greet each graduate and shake hands, celebrating their accomplishments and successes. Graduation is my favorite time of the academic year and I am grateful and honored to represent the school.

School of Nursing preparing for June 28 groundbreaking, construction of new facility

Construction of a new home for UMMC’s School of Nursing will provide the space for a 25 percent increase in enrollment. The facility will include classrooms, laboratories for simulation training and research, study and lounge areas for students and faculty and administration offices.

Mother’s dream of a nursing career inspires endowed nursing scholarship at UMMC

The estate of Hugh Carroll Smith, a Brookhaven native and a professor emeritus in biology at Louisiana State University in Alexandria, endowed the Ernestine Price Smith Scholarship for registered nurses in the School of Nursing’s RN-to-BSN program. The gift will fund three $5,000 scholarships, easing the financial burden of continuing education for registered nurses seeking a bachelor’s degree.

Of the University of Mississippi Medical Center's Class of 2023, about 740 of the 911 graduates took part in commencement ceremonies at the Mississippi Coliseum.

Dr. Amy Smith, who earned a BSN and MSN at UMMC, is the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs director of clinical operations for specialty care and recipient of the Nursing Alumna of the Year Award. Also Presly Lowry, nursing instructor, received the Early Career Achievement Award during the annual School of Nursing Alumni Awards luncheon.
