Continuing Education

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) School of Nursing (SON) is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Mississippi Nurses Foundation, Inc., an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Mission and goals

Mission

The mission of the UMMC SON Continuing Education program is to provide cost effective educational experiences to promote lifelong learning of registered nurses and other health care professionals in the state of Mississippi and the tri-state region (Alabama, Louisiana, and Tennessee).

Goal

The overall goals of the program are to:

  • Support and augment all academic programs of the SON;
  • Advance the professional development of faculty, staff, students, and registered nurses at UMMC and the community (local, state and region);
  • Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate continuing nursing education activities to enhance evidence-based nursing practice, education, administration, and research to improve health outcomes of Mississippians;
  • In collaboration with the UMMC Division of Continuing Health Professional Education, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate multidisciplinary continuing education activities that promote interprofessional education in health care.
