What is GWIMS?
The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) is a local organization affiliated with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). This organization emerged in response to the growing presence of women in medicine and the continued momentum of the civil rights and women's liberation movements. It was launched to identify barriers and develop strategies to increase the number of women entering medicine and to support them in their education and career advancement. In 2009, the name was changed to GWIMS, reflecting a broader commitment to supporting the full participation of women across the academic medicine continuum.
