Greetings and welcome to the website of the University of Mississippi Medical Center!
I hope this site provides the information you are seeking, whether you are a student interested in a health professions career, a patient making decisions about health care for yourself or your family, a prospective employee or business partner, or one of thousands of other people who interact with us on a daily basis.
We often describe ourselves as Mississippi’s only “academic medical center.” That’s because we have three, interrelated missions: health professions education, health sciences research and patient care. Each of these missions informs and enhances the others. That powerful dynamic sets us apart from other hospitals, educational institutions and research organizations.
We operate in all corners of the state, with telehealth sites, clinical preceptors, hospitals and clinics from the Gulf Coast to Corinth to the Delta.
Our state has many health challenges that we are committed to addressing through workforce growth, discovery and application of new treatments and cures, and an increased emphasis on prevention and wellness throughout the lifespan.
UMMC has three missions, but our 10,000 employees share one goal that unites us: To create A Healthier Mississippi. Thank you for your interest and support.
Sincerely,LouAnn Woodward, MDVice Chancellor for Health Affairsand Dean, School of Medicine
LouAnn Woodward assumed her current dual role as vice chancellor and dean on March 1, 2015. She is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the Medical Center, a $1.5 billion enterprise that is Mississippi’s only academic medical center. Previously she served for five years as associate vice chancellor for health affairs and vice dean of the School of Medicine during the tenure as vice chancellor of Dr. James E. Keeton.
The University of Mississippi Medical Center Strategic Plan, “UMMC/2020," was developed and adopted in 2014. It provides a blueprint that will guide the Medical Center through the next five years. The result of a thoughtful, inclusive planning process carried out over six months, UMMC/2020 sets forth a set of goals and associated strategies to help Medical Center leaders ensure continued success for the organization as they strive to achieve its mission to improve the health of Mississippians. Staff members across the organization are developing and carrying out action steps to implement the plan, and regular reviews are anticipated to adapt the plan to changing circumstances.
