In an effort to provide financial support to those engaged in research, funds that are derived from a UMMC account and comprise an individual's institutional base salary that are being "released" by grant funds may be returned to the department annually.
Released funds are defined as the institutional base salary portion of UMMC-budgeted faculty compensation which remains unobligated at the end of the fiscal year as the result of partial/full support from a sponsored award (i.e., those funds allocated for salary on a grant that are in excess of the funds used for an investigator's institutional base salary). These funds will automatically be returned to the department by OSP once a year. Transfers of these funds to the department will be contingent on availability of funds.
Questions regarding released funds should be directed to Sam Smith, Jr. or Andrew Merki in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, Post-Award.
