Hepatitis C training with CEU credit for primary care providers

Untreated hepatitis C causes significant morbidity and mortality, including cirrhosis, liver cancer, and need for liver transplant. Yet current direct acting antivirals (DAAs) have cure rates between 95 and 100% for most patients, making it easier than ever for primary care providers to improve long-term outcomes for their patients with the condition. Approximately, 23,000 Mississippians are living with HCV.

The UMMC Project ECHO for Hepatitis C is a collaboration between Svenja Albrecht, MD, of UMMC and Centro San Vicente, a Federally Qualified Health Center in El Paso, TX. The goal is to make HCV treatment more accessible by patients within their own communities.

Topics include:

• Screening and diagnosis of HCV
• Choosing medications
• Optimizing treatment to achieve a sustained virologic response (SVR), amounting to a cure
• Managing comorbidities and drug-to-drug interactions
• Staging fibrosis and managing advanced liver disease

How ECHO works

The hepatitis C ECHO meeting is hosted on the Zoom video conferencing platform monthly at 12:30 p.m. (CST). Providers will receive case submission links once they have registered as a participant.
