Updated April 1, 2024Visitation Rules for Adult Jackson Hospitals, Clinics and Procedural Areas
Inpatient Rooms
- Four visitors may visit at the same time between 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. weekdays, and 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. weekends and holidays.
- Two visitors (18 years and older) may stay overnight.
Critical Care Rooms
- Two visitors may visit at the same time between 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. weekdays, and 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. weekends and holidays.
- One visitor (18 years and older) may stay overnight. Visitor sleeping accommodations are not available.
Emergency Department (ED) Care Areas
- One visitor may accompany a patient.
- Visitors are required to check in when entering the ED and comply with security screening procedures.
- In times of increased volumes, we may ask ED visitors to wait to enter the hospital until the patient is placed in an ED room.
Surgery and Procedure Areas
- Two visitors may accompany a patient and wait in designated waiting rooms.
OB-GYN Patients — Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants
- Two visitors (18 years and older) may accompany a labor and delivery patient and stay with that patient 24 hours a day.
- Once the patient is transferred from labor and delivery to the inpatient unit, Inpatient Rooms visitation rules listed above apply.
Ambulatory Clinics or Other Outpatient Areas
- Two visitors may accompany a patient.
Ambulatory OB-GYN Clinics (Including those located in the Wiser Hospital and Maternal and Fetal Medicine Center)
- One adult (18 years old and older) visitor may accompany a patient. The patient's newborn is allowed to accompany the patient. No other children (younger than 18 years old) are allowed to accompany the patient during the clinic visit.
Visitation Rules for Children's of Mississippi Facilities
Inpatient Rooms
- Four visitors, including legal guardians, may visit at a time between 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. weekdays, and 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. weekends and holidays.
- Two overnight visitors are allowed.
- Visitors to Children's of Mississippi are required to check in with the hospital visitor management team when entering a UMMC facility and wear visitor identification at all times. Visitors who leave may only reenter with visible visitor identification.
Critical Care Rooms
- Two visitors, including legal guardians, may visit between 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. weekdays, and 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. weekends and holidays.

Visitor Entrances and Visitation Hours
Adult and Children's Emergency Departments and Wiser Women's Urgent Care are Open 24/7 for Patients and Visitors
Visitors entering a UMMC or Children's facility, including for an appointment at a hospital-based clinic or procedure unit, must use one of the available entrances listed below.
- The front entrance of University Hospital (under the overhang facing State Street near Garage A)
- The front entrance of Children's of Mississippi Sanderson Tower (under the overhang facing Woodrow Wilson near Garage C)
- The side entrance to Wiser Hospital for Women and Children (under the overhang facing Garage B)
- The front entrance to University Physicians Pavilion
Additional Visitor Information
- Visitors of patients admitted to Children's of Mississippi facilities are required to present photo identification upon initial visit.
- Children 10 and older are approved for short periods of supervised visitation in inpatient and critical care areas. Exceptions for children younger than 10 may be made under the direction of the clinical care team for end-of-life or other special circumstances. Children are supervised by an adult visitor at all times.
- Spiritual advisors and/or clergy requested by a patient are allowed and do not count as visitors.
- Patients who are on palliative service, nearing end of life, or on comfort care may have visits by a spouse/partner, children, parents, siblings and other who are close to the patient outside of listed visiting hours under the authorization and direction of the patient's multidisciplinary clinical care team.
- Visitors do not bring large groups to UMMC or Children's. Non-authorized persons are not permitted to congregate on UMMC or Children's grounds.
- Visitors are illness and infection free. A patient's clinical care team may remove a visitor suspected to present a health risk.
- Visitors maintain acceptable conduct at all times. Disruptive behavior and behaviors that negatively impact patient and staff safety are not tolerated. Visitors are removed if unable to comply with UMMC's behavioral conduct expectations.
- Video recording of UMMC or Children's staff is NOT allowed. Patient care teams do not provide treatment if a patient or visitor is using a recording device.
