Adult Visitation Policy
March 2023 UMMC Jackson Hospitals, Clinics, & Procedural Areas Visitation
Inpatients – Adult
During the visiting hours of 7 a.m.-7 p.m. daily, two visitors may visit at the same time. Only one visitor is allowed to stay overnight. Visitors may leave and come back during the hours the hospital entrances are open. No visitors can enter after 7 p.m. Patients may have up to a total of 4 approved visitors.
Critical Care – Adult
During the visiting hours of 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, two visitors may visit at the same time. Visitors must remain in the patient's room, except for necessities, such as going to the cafeteria or gift shop. No visitors can enter after 5 p.m. Critical care patients may have up to a total of 4 approved visitors.
Patients on Palliative Service, Nearing End of Life, or on Comfort Care
Spouse/partner, children, parents, siblings, and those closest to the patient may visit as directed by the multidisciplinary clinical care team.
Emergency Department (ED) Patients – Adult
One visitor may come with the patient. In times of increased volumes, we may ask ED visitors to wait to enter the hospital until the patient is placed in an ED room.
Surgery and Procedures – Adult
Two visitors may accompany the patient and stay in the waiting area.
Obstetrical Patients – Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants
One visitor may accompany the patient for labor and delivery 24 hours a day. Once the patient is transferred from labor and delivery to the inpatient unit, inpatient adult visitation rules apply with only one approved visitor for overnight stay.
Ambulatory Clinics or Other Outpatient Areas – Adult
One visitor may accompany the patient.
Ambulatory Obstetrical Clinics (Including the Wiser Hospital and Fetal Center)
One adult visitor may accompany the patient. The patient’s newborn is also allowed to accompany the patient. No other children are allowed to accompany the patient during the clinic visit.
