Employment Opportunities

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center invites applications for 12-month full-time tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Successful candidates are expected to establish an externally funded research program in vestibular and/or auditory research and contribute to our collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.

We welcome applications from accomplished early- to mid-career scientists (PhD, MD, or MD/PhD) with strong postdoctoral training and expertise in conducting state-of-the-art research in vestibular and/or auditory neuroscience. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, gene therapy, hair cell regeneration, traumatic brain injury, and neurodegenerative diseases.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center is an R1 Research Intensive Institution offering state-of-the-art core facilities, both at the institutional level and those established within the new Balance and Auditory Research Center (BARC), funded by the NIH COBRE program. The Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery is a vibrant and growing department at UMMC that has consistently ranked in the top 1/3 in the nation in terms of NIH funding and in the top 10 in the nation with regard to residency training scores.

Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience. Candidates whose research complements existing departmental strengths or promotes interdisciplinary collaboration within the BARC are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a robust, externally funded research program.
  • Contribute to the education of graduate and professional students.
  • Engage productively with both basic and clinical scientists at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Qualifications

PhD, MD, or MD/PhD, with postdoctoral training and a strong background in vestibular and/or auditory neuroscience.

Candidates for Associate Professor are expected to have an established record of extramural funding.

Candidates for Assistant Professor are expected to demonstrate a strong potential for establishing an externally funded research program.
