Host a Fundraiser or Special Event FAQ

Here's how UMMC will help make your fundraiser a success:

  • Gift receipts for all contributions made directly to Children's/UMMC via check or online.
  • More information about the clinical area of interest chosen as the beneficiary of your fundraising effort.
  • Guidance in accepted use of UMMC's name and/or logo in promotional materials for your event.
  • Event listing on UMMC's Community Engagement website and inclusion in bi-monthly e-newsletter.

Assistance that will not be provided:

  • Staff support for event coordination.
  • Recruitment of event sponsors/participants.
  • Mailing lists of donors, alumni, vendors, employees or volunteers.
  • Financial support to cover event expenses.
  • Obtain permits or insurance coverage.
  • Official receipts for donations NOT payable to UMMC.

Requirements for Marketing/Promotional Materials

UMMC must review and approve all publicity and/or promotional material containing the UMMC/Children's name or logo before these materials are printed, emailed, posted or released to the public in any way. Please email materials for review to communityevents@umc.edu.

Tax Deductibility and Receipting

An individual/organization making a donation payable to and received by UMMC will be sent an official receipt for tax purposes outlining the tax-deductible portion of the donation. The name appearing on the check received by UMMC, or donation made online, will be used for receipting purposes.

If goods or services are received in return for charitable donations (auction purchases, beverages, meals, tickets, etc.), you must determine and communicate the fair market value of those goods or services to individuals before they make a donation. The value of goods or services will be deducted from the total donation amount to determine the tax-deductible portion of the donation.

Event Proceeds

All proceeds from your event/promotion should be received within 30 days. Gifts made via check should be payable to "UMMC" or "Children's of Mississippi." Although a pre-addressed and pre-stamped envelope can be provided, additional checks should be mailed to:

If individuals are mailing checks directly to UMMC at the address above, please include the event name in the memo of the check so the donations may be directed appropriately. MAY I USE THE UMMC LOGO TO PROMOTE MY FUNDRAISER?

The Office of Development will provide you with a logo (.eps, .jpg or .pdf format) for use in promotional materials. All promotional materials must be approved by UMMC prior to production.

WILL UMMC HELP ME PROMOTE MY FUNDRAISER?

UMMC will gladly promote your fundraiser on the Community Engagement website, as well as list your event under Upcoming Community Events in the bi-monthly e-newsletter.

WILL UMMC STAFF HELP ME MANAGE MY FUNDRAISER EVENT?

UMMC staff are not able to help plan or manage your fundraiser. We recommend you form a committee of friends, family members, and other volunteers to help you plan and execute your fundraiser.

WILL UMMC COVER MY EXPENSES?

No. Community fundraisers are responsible for covering all expenses and will not be reimbursed. You can deduct costs associated with your fundraiser prior to submitting the proceeds. Important: Expenses cannot be deducted from your online fundraising page.

WILL UMMC SHARE A LIST OF SUPPORTERS FOR ME TO CONTACT?

No. Due to confidentiality policies, we cannot provide mailing lists of donors, physicians, staff, or vendors.

CAN SOMEONE FROM UMMC ATTEND OR SPEAK AT MY FUNDRAISER?

We can facilitate invitations to UMMC patients, physicians, and/or staff but cannot guarantee participation.

WILL UMMC SOLICIT CORPORATE SPONSORS FOR MY FUNDRAISER?

No. We cannot solicit corporate sponsors or celebrity endorsements for your fundraiser.

WILL UMMC PROVIDE GIFT RECEIPTS TO MY SUPPORTERS?

UMMC will issue tax receipts for any donation made payable to "UMMC" or "Children's of Mississippi" and accompanied by comprehensive contact information.

HOW DO I DONATE SOMETHING OTHER THAN MONEY?

If you wish to donate supplies or other items such as books or toys, please visit umc.edu/inkinddonations for a list of current needs and the guidelines surrounding those donations.
