Professional development opportunities at Children's of Mississippi includes programs that encourage and enable nurses to gain degrees and certifications.
- Transition to Practice
- At Children's of Mississippi, we strive to offer new hires the best possible onboarding experience by providing a structured, evidence-based program to assist in their transition to professional practice.
- Professional Development Program
- The University of Mississippi Medical Center offers the Professional Development Program as a structured system to promote RN career advancement, recognize professional development and differentiate levels of nurse expertise and contributions to the organization. Additional compensation is offered for participants.
- Continuing education
- Children's of Mississippi is committed to providing education throughout one's career. Continuing education is routinely offered by unit educators based on the unit’s needs or recommendations from the unit's Education and Professional Development Council. Our employees have access to Pediatric Learning Solutions, a product of the Children's Hospital Association, through our learning management system, offering nearly 200 modules on various pediatric topics.
- Specialty certification support
- Our nurses are encouraged to obtain national certification in their respective specialties, leading to improved safety, quality of care and job satisfaction. Several units offer preparatory and review courses for these certification exams. The organization offers additional compensation for approved specialty certifications.
- Support for academic advancement
- With the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing nearby, Children's of Mississippi RNs have a unique opportunity to advance their nursing career through a variety of pathways. UMMC employees can take advantage of the Workforce Development Scholarship with a commitment to stay within the organization for a specified time.
- Opportunities to attend local and national conferences
- Children's of Mississippi RNs are encouraged to join professional organizations for their specialties. We encourage attendance at local and national conferences for continuing education opportunities and networking with counterparts throughout the United States and, in some cases, the world.
