Awards and recognition

Children's Emergency Department with their DAISY Team Award.Children's of Mississippi's nurses have been recognized at the local, state and national level for their care and expertise.

These awards include:

  • The DAISY Award
    • The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that celebrates the extraordinary compassion nurses provide to their patients and families every day. Children's of Mississippi nurses may be nominated by anyone who experiences or observes their exceptional level of care. This includes patients, family members, co-workers, providers and staff.
      The DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses honoring nurses internationally in memory of Patrick J. Barnes.
  • Beacon Award
    • In 2023, our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit was awarded the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Beacon Award " Silver Status. The PICU at Children's of Mississippi is the only Beacon designated intensive care unit in the state of Mississippi and one of only 30 PICUs with Beacon designation in the United States.
    • From the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses: "The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes units who distinguish themselves by providing high-quality patient care in a healthy work environment. For patients and their families, the Beacon Award signifies exceptional care in a unit that puts patients first. For nurses, this award can mean a positive and supportive work environment with greater collaboration, higher morale and lower turnover."
  • AORN Center of Excellence in Surgical Safety: RSI Prevention
    • In 2023, Children's of Mississippi was recognized as an AORN Center of Excellence in Surgical Safety in the prevention of retained surgical items. Our commitment to the prevention of RSIs, thereby reducing the potential of patient harm, reinforces our obligation to provide the highest quality of care to Mississippi's children.
  • AORN Go Clear Award™
    • In 2024, Perioperative Services at Children's of Mississippi was awarded AORN's Go Clear AwardTM. This recognition is bestowed upon organizations that demonstrate a commitment to improving patient and workplace safety by taking steps to clear surgical smoke, a potentially hazardous by-product of surgical tools, from operating rooms.
  • Our Magnet Journey
    • In 2023, we embarked on the journey to Magnet Designation by recognizing the excellence in nursing care being provided, creating a framework of interprofessional governance, and creating a structure to sustain top-tier quality in the care we provide.
    • From the American Nurses Credentialing Center: "The Magnet Recognition Program identifies healthcare organizations throughout the world that have made a commitment to nursing excellence by aligning nursing strategic goals to improve patient outcomes and the delivery of care. Magnet designated organizations support nurses through education and professional development leading to greater autonomy and satisfaction."
    • This commitment to nursing excellence ultimately results in the delivery of the best possible care to patients and their families, contributing to the mission and vision of Children's of Mississippi."
    • We are pursuing designation in 2025.
