SURE Program Eligibility and Application Process

Eligibility Requirements                                               

SURE program logo.pgnIn order to be considered eligible for the UMMC SURE program, applicants must:

  • Submit a completed application, including two online faculty (professor) recommendations for undergraduate applicants or two teacher recommendations for high school senior applicants, prior to the application deadline
  • Confirm undergraduate status – All undergraduates, up to rising seniors, are eligible to apply. Current high school seniors who are graduating prior to the start of the SURE program and have been accepted into an undergraduate program are also eligible to apply 
    • Undergraduates who are expected to graduate prior to the start of the SURE program are considered ineligible
  • Include a valid US Social Security number
    • The SURE Program cannot sponsor visa requests for potential applicants who reside outside of the U.S.

Special Instructions for Submitting Your Application

Prior to Completing Your Application

  • Obtain an electronic version of your current, unofficial transcript (PDF file preferred). Ensure student's name is clearly visible. 
  • Select two faculty recommenders and ask for approval to submit their names/contact information in your application. 

Faculty Recommendations

  • Upon submission of your application, an electronic reference form will be sent to your two faculty recommenders. 
  • Be sure you have valid e-mail addresses for both recommenders.
  • Inform the recommenders that they will be receiving an email to complete an online form.
    • Letters cannot be attached to the application. However, comments are allowed and encouraged.
  • Inform the recommenders about the Feb. 7 deadline to ensure that your application is marked as complete.
  • Applicants may change their faculty recommenders by editing their application, even after the original submission is complete.

Corrections or Changes

  • If corrections or changes need to be made to your application after it has been submitted, go back to the application site and click on "Existing Users." Use the same e-mail address and password that you used to complete the application. This can be done up to the deadline.
