Discovery U-High School is designed to give local high school students the opportunity to observe and learn about biomedical research and the extensive career opportunities for individuals with advanced science degrees.
Currently, the School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences has partnerships with Clinton High School and Madison Central High School.
2017 was a successful year for the Discovery U program and Clinton High School! Seven Clinton High students traveled to UMMC one day a week to observe the research conducted in the UMMC laboratories. They learned about the role of a biomedical research scientist and the extensive career opportunities available in biomedical research. At the end of the year, they delivered a final semester presentation on the research conducted in one of the labs they observed. Thank you to Drs. Bengten, Coolen, Harmancey, Janorkar, LaMarca, Williams, and Wirschell, and the graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in these labs for giving the Clinton High School students an amazing experience and sparking their interest in a career in biomedical research!
