Main ContentEversCare Food Pantry
Mississippi has the highest rate of food insecurity in the nation (over 20%). To address this issue, the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Ambulatory EversCare Clinic at the Myrlie Evers-Williams Institute for the Elimination of Health Disparities offers an emergency food pantry.
EversCare Clinic partners with the Mississippi Urban League and the Mississippi Food Network to provide an emergency food pantry, which is available to UMMC patients during weekdays and is available monthly to the broader community. EversCare Food Emergency Assistance, also called the EversCare Food Pantry, is designed to assist in the fight to end hunger and help build communities. High-quality food items are available (e.g., lean meats, vegetables, and low-salt items) and selected to meet a range of dietary needs.
The EversCare Clinic integrates health care with supportive social health services, which is why during community food distributions, a variety of complimentary health screens (e.g., blood pressure, diabetes, dental) are offered by faculty and health professional students, and community and advocacy organizations are present to offer free services (e.g., complimentary smoke detectors provided by the fire department). A variety of healthy resources are provided to patients in an effort to improve their health and improve health outcomes.
If you are a UMMC patient and you are experiencing food insecurity, please have your provider refer you to the EversCare Clinic by placing a referral, calling the EversCare office at 601-815-3535, or emailing EversCare@umc.edu.
Due to COVID-19, the EversCare Food Pantry has established a mobile food distribution process to limit exposure and to ensure that assistance can continue to be provided to patients and the community.
The EversCare Food Panty distributes food every third Wednesday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and additionally as resources allow.
The EversCare Food Pantry is supported by community volunteers who volunteer their time and abilities to positively impact the lives of others. The EversCare Food Pantry and its volunteers share a commitment to the fight to end hunger. Volunteers are essential in preparing the food bags and disseminating them to those in need. If you would like to join the EversCare Food Pantry as an individual volunteer or if your business or organization would like to partner with the EversCare Food Pantry, please call the EversCare office at 601-815-3535 or send an email to EversCare@umc.edu.
