About the Burn Center
Case Management and Workers Compensation
On average, a person's stay in the hospital for burn care is about one day per the percentage of the body impacted by burns. For example, if a person has burns on 30 percent of the body, he or she may estimate a stay of around 30 days in the hospital.
However, each patient’s situation is different, and the actual discharge date can be impacted by many other factors. A patient may have chronic diseases that delay healing. Transportation issues or conditions in their home environment could impact their recovery.
To manage these important details, the Burn Center’s staff includes dedicated case managers. These social workers are focused solely on patients admitted to the Burn Center. They take into consideration all the support a person needs to return home as safely and comfortably as possible. This approach allows our patients to return home or to the most appropriate care setting in a timely manner.
Additionally, we have workers’ compensation liaisons who are well-versed in managing workers’ compensation processes. They are able to help patients navigate any special program requirements so they can focus on recovery.
