The J. T. Davis Visiting Lectureship in Hand Surgery, endowed in 1985 by J. T. Davis, Jr., MD, honors the legacy of his father, J. T. Davis, Sr., MD, who has been called Mississippi’s pioneer hand surgeon. Dr. Davis completed surgical residency in 1935 and began his general surgery practice in Corinth, MS. His interest in hand surgery was born during World War II when he served in the Army Surgical Corp in the European Theatre. He returned to Corinth after the war in 1945 and restarted his private practice. He worked as a general surgeon for 58 years. The lectureship named in his honor seeks to promote the education of aspiring hand and upper extremity surgeons at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
