Volunteer Spotlight: Penske
For the past several years, Penske team members have volunteered with the EversCare Food Pantry, helping support patients, families and community members facing food insecurity. In this volunteer spotlight, Thomas Mcglaun, district human resource manager for Penske, shares how the partnership began, why it continues to matter and how service reflects Penske’s commitment to “People Helping People.”
Q: Penske representatives have been volunteering with the EversCare Food Pantry for several years. How did the relationship between Penske and the pantry first begin?
We’ve been working with the food pantry for three to four years now. The relationship began when we were looking for ways to become more involved in the community. Our team members wanted to have more of an impact and, after doing some research, we were impressed with the work being done by EversCare.

Q: What initially inspired your team to support the EversCare Food Pantry and the community it serves?
During a recent survey, our associates expressed a strong interest in becoming more involved in community-based events. One of our three pillars of success is “People Helping People,” which applies both internally and externally. As an employer, we want to make sure our team has opportunities to make a positive impact in the community where we live and work.
Q: Penske has continued to show up and volunteer consistently over the years. Why has this partnership remained important?
I think this partnership has remained important because of the intent behind it. Everyone involved truly cares about what they’re doing and wants to help.
Q: How does volunteering and community engagement align with Penske’s broader mission and values?
Helping people is in our DNA. We care about our team as individuals and about our community, so I think it’s deeper than alignment. It’s who we are.
Q: What has been the most rewarding part of volunteering at the EversCare Food Pantry?
The most rewarding part is putting a smile on people’s faces.
Q: What would you say to other organizations or businesses about the importance of community service and giving back?
I wouldn’t necessarily say it only to organizations or businesses, but to people in general: “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
Q: Is there anything you would like the community to know about Penske’s commitment to supporting local organizations and families?
Our goal isn’t the spotlight or notoriety when it comes to working in the community. Our business is renting and leasing trucks, but our goal is to make a difference.
