Uber Health launches at MEWI: a new solution for patient transportation

The Myrlie Evers-Williams Institute (MEWI) is excited to announce the launch of Uber Health, a new initiative aimed at making health care more accessible to its patients. This service offers reliable transportation to medical appointments, ensuring that transportation barriers no longer prevent individuals from receiving timely care.

Haley Bender James, Project Manager for the Mississippi Diabetes Prevention Program and the Center for HIV/AIDS Research, Education, and Policy at MEWI, emphasizes the importance of Uber Health for the community: “Transportation has always been a major hurdle for many of our patients, especially in underserved areas. Uber Health provides a simple, reliable way for them to get the care they need, when they need it. It’s already making a huge difference."

Uber Health allows patients to schedule rides to and from medical appointments, and for those who qualify, rides are covered at no cost. While this service is already benefiting many, there are ongoing efforts to expand its reach to patients in more rural areas, where transportation options remain limited.

"Uber Health is allowing EversCare to address a key barrier to health care for many of our patients," says MEWI's director of operations, Dashunda Bunton. "With this awesome resource, we are hoping to improve outcomes in our patients' overall health. EversCare is here to ensure our often disadvantaged and underserved patient population has the opportunity to achieve not only optimal health care, but equitable health care. We are grateful this partnership affords us the ability to assist our patients in getting one step closer to achieving that."
