Welcome from the executive director
Welcome to the inaugural edition of MEWI in Motion! It is with great pride and a deep sense of purpose that I introduce this platform to highlight the impactful work of our Institute, where we are committed to reducing health inequities and improving the lives of our community members across Mississippi. Our Community Advisory Board has been instrumental in shaping our approach to tackling health disparities. Their guidance ensures that our efforts are informed by the real-world experiences and needs of the communities we serve. We are incredibly grateful for their partnership, which strengthens our programs and initiatives.
The EversCare Clinic continues to be a beacon of hope, providing essential health services to those most in need. Our focus on comprehensive care goes beyond treating medical conditions, as we address the social determinants of health that often serve as barriers to achieving optimal health. Through our clinic, we are making significant strides in promoting health equity. We are excited to announce a new collaboration with UberHealth, which will play a key role in increasing access to healthcare for underserved populations. This partnership aligns with our mission of eliminating barriers to care and ensuring that transportation is not a hurdle for those seeking clinical care. In addition to this collaboration, we are advancing critical research in areas that have long impacted our state. Some of our ongoing projects involve maternal health, HIV, congenital syphilis, and diabetes—all issues that disproportionately affect underserved populations. These studies aim to improve health outcomes and provide actionable insights that can be applied on a broader scale.
As we move forward, I invite you to stay engaged with the work of the Myrlie Evers-Williams Institute. We remain focused on making an impact here in Mississippi and beyond through partnerships, community engagement, and a shared commitment to improving health outcomes. Thank you for supporting the mission of the Myrlie Evers-Williams Institute for the Elimination of Health Disparities.
