Captain Rodney Daniels

Rodney Daniels is the Captain of the Patrol Division for UMMC Police and Public Safety Department (UMMC PD) and has 16 years of law enforcement experience. He began his career in 2007 with the Jackson Police Department (JPD) as a patrolman, then as a background/ceasefire detective. In 2012, Daniels was awarded the Medal of Valor for his heroic efforts in attempting to stop a man with a gun.

Daniels continued his career with JPD and was later awarded the Exceptional Service Medal and The Samaritan Medal. Daniels received Top Cop and Officer of the Year before starting his career at the University of Mississippi Medical Center under the leadership of Chief Mary Paradis.

At UMMC PD, Daniels served as a Patrolman and Sergeant before earning the promotion of Captain. In his current role, Daniels administers all patrol functions including fleet management, training coordination, and community liaisons with external agencies.

Daniels completed the Mississippi Command College in 2023 and has become a member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. Daniels is seeking a Bachelor's in Business Administration at Ole Miss University.
