Main ContentUnique to UMMC
As part of Mississippi’s academic medical center, the Stroke Center has access to wide-ranging additional resources that create a deeper continuum of care. Stroke patients who come to us for treatment are in a setting equipped to handle complex cases and any complications that may arise.
Our stroke team conducts daily meetings to collaborate on the care of stroke patients. Patients also benefit from early rehab with experienced occupational, physical and speech therapists. Social workers assist with discharge planning, whether the patient is going to a rehabilitation facility or returning home. They can also help schedule home health services and arrange for any equipment a patient may need, such as wheelchairs or walkers.
The UMMC Stroke Center treats children who have had strokes in consultation with pediatric experts at Children's of Mississippi, the state's only children's hospital.
As a Comprehensive Stroke Center, as certified by The Joint Commission, and part of an academic medical center connected to the state’s only children’s hospital, the UMMC Stroke Center is uniquely positioned and equipped to treat all patients who need stroke care, no matter their age or the complexity of their condition.
