Child Life Receives $20,000 Toy Foundation Play Grant to Support Children Across Mississippi

This year, the Child Life team proudly received a $20,000 Play Grant from The Toy Foundation, enabling us to bring comfort, creativity and joy to children receiving care across the state. The grant was used to create and distribute care packages for both inpatient children and those visiting Children's of Mississippi clinics. Each package was thoughtfully designed to include developmentally appropriate activities that encourage play, foster imagination, and support diverse interests and abilities. Beyond entertainment, these packages offered children and families a sense of comfort, inclusion and emotional support during challenging times.

The Child Life team collaborated with hospital teachers, and the first group of packages was delivered during Read Across America Week, celebrating literacy and play together. A second group of packages was distributed in late October, extending the impact of the grant and ensuring continued support for the children and families.

Through the generosity of the Toy Foundation, Child Life was able to extend resources to additional campuses, broadening the reach of play-based support. The initiative promoted diversity and inclusion through play, ensuring that every child had access to activities that nurture cognitive and developmental growth. This grant reflects the shared commitment of Child Life and The Toy Foundation to make hospital experiences less intimidating and more empowering for children.
