Steve Chambers is the Director of Public Safety for the UMMC Police and Public Safety Department. Mr. Chambers has enjoyed a long career in law enforcement, which began in 1994. After attending the Chicago Police Academy, he was a police officer in a northern suburb of Chicago. During this time, he worked in high crime areas as part of the Community Policing initiative. He ended his eight-year career as a detective and transitioned into federal law enforcement. Mr. Chambers spent 20 years as a special agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, specializing in violent crime and national security issues. Over his 20-year career, he enjoyed many assignments and responsibilities. He investigated federal violations in numerous states, and collaborated with investigative and intelligence services across Europe and the United Kingdom. He worked for short periods in Paris, France as well as Interpol in Lyon, France. Along with various investigative and management duties throughout his career, Mr. Chambers was also a member of the FBI SWAT team in the southwest United States as an operator and sniper.
Mr. Chambers has a Bachelor of Arts degree in French studies and a Masters of Science degree in managerial leadership.
