Mississippi Nurses Foundation Scholarship
The Mississippi Nurses Foundation provides scholarship, stipends, and grants to nursing students and RNs throughout the state of Mississippi who are pursuing nursing degrees. Visit the MNF website for additional information.
HRSA Nursing Scholarship
Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) offers a nursing scholarship through a grant, which pays tuition, fees, other education costs and a living stipend to students in accredited RN training programs. In exchange, upon graduation, scholars work for at least two years at a facility, such as a health center, rural health clinic, nursing home or hospital, that has a critical shortage of nurses.

Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP)
Note: This loan program is for graduate and doctoral students only.
The NFLP is a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) nursing loan program with a cancellation provision for recipients of the loan. Sections 846A and 847(f) of the Public Health Service Act authorizes the lending school to cancel up to 85 percent of the NFLP loan (plus interest thereon). The borrower must serve as full-time nurse faculty for a consecutive four-year period following graduation from the program to cancel the maximum amount of the loan.
Student can be full-time (taking 9 hours or more) OR part-time (taking at least 5 hours) in an advanced education nursing degree program1, in good academic standing, and a citizen of the U.S., a non-citizen national, or a foreign national having in his/her possession a visa. Full support includes the cost of tuition, fees, books, laboratory expenses and other reasonable education expenses.

Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program
The Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP) assists in the recruitment and retention of professional registered nurses in facilities with a critical nursing shortage. NELRP encourages practice in these facilities by decreasing economic barriers associated with the rising cost of obtaining a nursing degree. The program offers RNs economic assistance through educational loan repayment in exchange for full-time service at a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses.

SGSHS stipends, scholarships and tuition
The School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences offers stipends, scholarship and tuition opportunities to PhD in Nursing students.
Stipends: Stipends and scholarships are assigned on a competitive basis. The current graduate student stipend is $24,150 per year for up to five years.
Tuition: Tuition rates are subject to yearly change. Tuition for SGSHS is only assessed for nine (9) hours of graduate credit regardless of the number of credit hours taken. Laboratory fees and other special fees depend on the course taken.
SGSHS Dean's Scholarship: The School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences Dean's Scholarship is a full-tuition recruitment scholarship which is awarded to students for outstanding academic achievement. Students who are citizens of the US or permanent residents are also eligible for the Dean's Scholarship. Students wishing to be considered for a stipend and/or Dean's Scholarship for the upcoming fall semester should apply for admission prior to April 1.

School of Nursing (SON) Scholarships & Awards
The School of Nursing scholarships are awarded during the spring semester of each academic year. The SON scholarship season opens in February and awards are disbursed in May of each year. Students who are selected to receive a scholarship are asked to attend our annual Honors Day program, which is held in the first week of May.
Students are notified the internal scholarship application process is open by email from the director of student affairs when applications become available. Students are responsible for providing all supporting information and documentation required for applications. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed or considered. Students are responsible for ensuring their applications are completed by the application deadline, they will not receive notification if their application is incomplete.
Scholarships are awarded in four categories:
- Donor selected scholarships- Donors determine the recipients of these scholarships based on application selection.
- Faculty selected scholarships- Program faculty determine the recipients of these scholarships based on pre-determined criteria.
- Program application scholarships- Although scholarships are not generally awarded upon entrance, several scholarships are determine based on information provided on a student’s entrance application/ranking during their acceptance cycle.
- Application scholarships- Recipients are selected by SON scholarship committee upon review of all complete applications. Students review scholarship applications and determine their eligibility to apply based on the criteria outlined on the application.
