Travel on a Visa/Visa Extensions
Travel Reminders
Continuing students, scholars, and their dependent family members with F status who will travel outside of the United States must come to the Office of Student Records and Registrar before leaving so that the I-20 can be signed for travel permission.
The I-20 must have a travel signature that is not more than six months old at the time of return to the U.S. If you do not have a signature or if the signature is too old, re‐entry to the United States may be refused.
Please plan to have your documents signed for travel no less than a week prior to your departure.
Extensions
Students: If your I‐20 is going to expire at the end of this semester but you plan to continue studying during the Summer or Fall Semester, you will need to have your I‐20 extended. Check the complete studies by date in number 5 of the I‐20. You must get the new form before the expiration date.
The Request for Extension of F‐1 Form will need to be signed by your academic advisor.
