Welcome to the School of Nursing
Welcome to the University of Mississippi School of Nursing. We are pleased that you are interested in pursuing or advancing your nursing education with us.
We live by our mission – to develop nursing leaders and improve health within and beyond Mississippi through excellence in education, research, practice and service
– and it guides everything we do. The school’s dedicated faculty and staff work together to support student success. We are committed to providing a first-rate, holistic learning experience. What sets us apart from any other nursing school in the state?
The School of Nursing, located at Mississippi’s only academic health sciences center, provides students with direct access to an interdisciplinary educational environment parallel to none. UMMC programs deliver a setting comprised of faculty who are recognized experts in their field, and prepared to lead students into nursing practice amid a constantly changing and challenging health-care environment.
We offer state-of-the-art research opportunities at the state and national levels. We collaborate with organizations such as the National Cancer Institute, the National Institutes of Health, the John D. Bower School of Population Health and the Jackson Heart Study. The school has established itself on the international stage as a Centre of Excellence through our evidence-based practice with the Joanna Briggs Institute, which led to an affiliation with the prestigious Cochrane organization.
Our nurse-managed school-based clinics provide care to underserved communities in Midtown Jackson and the Mississippi Delta regions. The School of Nursing clinical skills and simulation labs house the latest technology to ensure readiness for practice. Our faculty include interprofessional simulations across multiple disciplines at the Medical Center and University of Mississippi campuses.
