Welcome to the School of Nursing

Welcome to the School of Nursing at the University of Mississippi Medical Center's website.

Our mission - Develop nursing leaders and improve health within and beyond Mississippi through excellence in education, research, practice and service - guides our actions as the School of Nursing at Mississippi's only academic health sciences center. We commit to caring for our team of students, patients, staff, faculty and community partners through mutual respect, dignity and accountability. Together, we envision a healthier Mississippi.

Regardless of the program you choose, you will find our distinguished School of Nursing excels in providing an interdisciplinary educational environment, parallel to none. Recognized experts, our faculty prepare students to lead nursing practice in a constantly changing and challenging health-care field. Our dedicated staff works with faculty to ensure your success. We focus on teaching, practice, research and service; thereby, offering holistic experiences for nursing students and professional nurses.

Founded in 1948, the School of Nursing began the first baccalaureate program in Mississippi; the first master's program in 1970; the PhD in 1998; and the DNP in 2011. Since our start, thousands of graduates have cared for the people of Mississippi and beyond. As we celebrate our 70th Anniversary, we continue strong growth across the state and provide opportunities for degree advancement at every level of professional nursing education. All of our programs are nationally accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Nurse-managed urban and rural clinics, including school-based, primary care and mobile clinics, serve communities and afford a rich understanding of patient needs across settings. Our simulation labs and virtual learning spaces house the latest technology to ensure readiness for practice. Service learning remains central to our efforts. Most importantly, we consistently challenge ourselves and our students with initiatives that elevate health care for all Mississippians.

Talk with us! We welcome the contributions you bring to nursing and look forward to working collaboratively on this journey toward better nursing care and healthier lives.
