What are the residency requirements for the School of Nursing?

What is Early-Entry? Who is eligible? 

The RN to BSN Early Entry pathway allows students currently enrolled in a traditional or transitions associate degree nursing program to apply to the RN to BSN (after completing the first semester of ADN). Peace of mind comes with knowing that if you maintain program requirements and complete your ADN program, you will have a guaranteed spot in the RN to BSN program. Students have until the end of the first semester within the RN to BSN program to pass the NCLEX-RN®.

Partnering institutions include Coahoma CC, East Central CC, East MS CC, Hinds CC, Holmes CC, Itawamba CC, Jones College, Meridian CC, Mississippi Delta CC, Mississippi Gulf Coast CC, Northwest MS CC, Pearl River CC, and Southwest MS CC. 

Is there an entrance exam required for your undergraduate programs?

No entrance exam is required for admission into the UMMC School of Nursing.

What are the ACT requirements?

There is no minimum ACT requirement for the RN-BSN program.

What are the GPA requirements?

The RN to BSN program requires a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.0. All GPAs are based on a 4.0 scale.

How many students are accepted?

The number of students accepted differs from application cycle to application cycle depending on the number of qualified applicants, the number of available faculty, the number of available clinical sites and preceptors, etc.

How many times a year do you admit students?

The RN-BSN online program begins all three semesters.

What classes do I need to take before starting nursing school?

There are 62 hours of prerequisites. These can be taken at a regionally accredited college or community college of your choice and usually take at least two years to complete. All prerequisites must be finished prior to starting nursing school.

Note: Two of the three required science prerequisites must be completed with grades posted prior to the application deadline.

Is there a part-time option available? 

Since the RN to BSN is a 31-hour program, students are admitted on a part-time basis.

Is it possible for a student to have a job while enrolled in the RN to BSN program? 

Yes, most RN to BSN students work full-time while enrolled in this program.

What are the clinical requirements for this 100% online program? 

There are 24 leadership clinical hours required for the program. During these hours, students will shadow a BSN or higher prepared nurse leader. 

Does UMMC School of Nursing offer scholarships/ financial aid? 

Yes, both are available to qualified students who apply. UMMC institutional scholarships are awarded after enrollment, during the awards and scholarship season. Students receive emails notifying them when applications are open.
