Admission Information
Admission criteria
- A complete application;
- Baccalaureate degree from a college accredited by one of the institutional accrediting agencies (applicants must hold the degree before beginning the Accelerated BSN program);
- A cumulative overall GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale (Hours from all previously attempted undergraduate course work are used in calculating the cumulative GPA.)
- Completion of required prerequisite courses with a minimum of grade C in each course. Applicants may apply for admission when the number of prerequisite courses completed, plus those on the plan of study, equals 62 credit hours. All prerequisite courses (76 credit hours) must be completed before beginning the nursing program.
- At least two science prerequisites must be completed with a minimum of grade C posted prior to the program application deadline.
- Official transcripts from all schools attended.
- If an applicant has been dismissed from any nursing program, one year must pass from date of dismissal to date of eligibility into any UMMC School of Nursing program.
Additional admission criteria for classes beginning May 1, 2024
- Completion of statements sharing experiences demonstrating perseverance, service, leadership and life experiences.
- Depending on the program/track you are applying for, an interview may be required as a part of the holistic admissions process. Additional information will be provided to applicants when they are invited to interview.
- The ACT is not required for applicants with a bachelor's degree or higher.
Applicants who are admitted to the Accelerated BSN Program must attend a program overview day with the SON faculty held approximately eight weeks before the program begins.
Students must enroll in full-time study in the Accelerated BSN program option. Because of the accelerated pace of the curriculum, students are strongly encouraged NOT to work while in the program.
Oxford Campus Admission Criteria
Preference for admission to the Accelerated BSN program will be extended to qualified Ole Miss graduates first.
Qualified Ole Miss graduates include those who meet Accelerated BSN admission criteria and one of the following criteria:
- Currently working toward a University of Mississippi graduate or undergraduate degree and hold the degree by program entry in August;
- Have graduated from the University of Mississippi within the past two years;
- Hold a University of Mississippi degree that is more than two years old but currently enrolled in prerequisite coursework at the University of Mississippi;
- Hold a non-UM degree but currently enrolled in prerequisite coursework at the University of Mississippi and have completed a minimum of 31 hours of coursework at Ole Miss before the program start date in August.
Technical Standards for Admission, Progression
Prerequisites
For the Accelerated BSN program, you must complete 62 hours of prerequisite coursework. However, many of these prerequisites are classes that you more than likely completed in your bachelor's program. Additional prerequisites may be completed at the college, university or community college of your choice.
