PhD Research Day posterDoctor of Philosophy in Nursing Degree

Are you interested in reaching your full potential and earning the field's highest academic degree, a credential earned by less than 1 percent of the population? Whether you are interested in a career in nursing leadership, education, policy or research, the PhD in Nursing program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is the right choice for you.

Offered through the School of Nursing and the School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences, the PhD in Nursing is a clinical research degree. A program for exceptional students, the PhD in Nursing integrates the exploration of a clinically-based question into the relationship-intensive plan of study, which can be completed in five years or less.

One degree, personalized plan of study

We welcome applicants earned BSN, MSN, or DNP degrees. The PhD Plan of Study includes formal coursework, research, practicum, and electives - offered in person and hybrid formats. Students must pass a comprehensive examination before entering into candidacy and conducting dissertation research. Degree requirements also include a first authored publication in a peer-reviewed national or international journal.
