Research Interests

As an epidemiologist, I identify new morbidity and mortality trends, delve into disease causality, and detangle the complex interplay of social, economic, and cultural factors on health outcomes. To achieve these goals, I have made extensive use of population-level health data sources such as hospital discharge data, Vital Records, and Prescription Drug Monitoring System data. These large data sets have allowed me to work on crucial surveillance projects for our state, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the opioid death crisis, and preventable child deaths.

Currently, my research focuses on one of the most urgent public health issues in Mississippi: the maternal and infant health crisis. I am particularly interested in studying the complex causal pathways between escalating chronic disease burdens and preventable adverse perinatal outcomes such as cesarean sections, preterm births, severe maternal morbidity, and maternal deaths. In this work, I apply both traditional and novel analytical methods, including cluster analyses, spatial regression, and quasi experimental study designs for epidemiological forecasting and policy evaluation.
