The specialized team that makes up UMMC Orthopaedics includes the state’s only orthopaedic oncologist, a skilled surgeon who specializes in the treatment of bone and soft tissue tumors for all ages.
Our orthopaedic oncologist works with other UMMC specialists as well as our
Cancer Center and Research Institute to ensure patients are offered individualized treatment developed from leading-edge research utilizing state-of-the-art facilities.
Treatment is provided for all extremity, pelvic bone, and
soft tissue tumors (benign or malignant), ranging from common to the most rare diagnoses. Certain tumors of the spine also are treated as part of a multidisciplinary approach with UMMC’s neurosurgery and orthopaedic spine specialists.

- Biopsy
- Bone grafting
- Curettage
- Excision of mass
- Limb-salvaging resection (with bone or implant)
