Message from the Dean
Writing my first official dean's message in this edition of the School of Nursing Vital Signs newsletter is exciting.
As an alumni and faculty member, I am so honored and humbled to be leading our state’s flagship nursing school. Excellence has been a hallmark of the SON since its beginning, and now, more than 75 years later, we will continue the momentum that is already in place and empower faculty and students to pursue excellence in nursing education. Our mission “To develop nurse leaders and improve health within and beyond Mississippi through excellence in education, research, practice and service” guides our strategic initiatives to position our academic programs for the next generation of learners.
Our faculty and staff are busy with spring semester courses while planning to welcome 170 pre-licensure nursing students in May—120 in Jackson and 50 at the Oxford site. Enrollment for the spring 2024 semester is 865 students with 412 undergraduate and 453 graduate students. We are projecting an enrollment of over 900 students for the fall 2024 semester.
I am delighted to share the outstanding achievements of our students, faculty and staff in this newsletter. Thank you for your continued commitment to the SON.
Best Wishes,
Tina Martin, PhD, RN, FNP-BC
