Michael Vaughan has been part of the UMMC family since July 2000. He started work at University in the Television/Audio Visual/Multi-media Department and then later in the Department of Information Systems. Vaughan transferred to the School of Nursing in November 2014 as an instructional technologist. His career at UMMC has involved providing audio visual and technology support across the entire campus including technical support in the hospitals, video recording surgeries, supporting grand rounds, and technology support for the Schools of Medicine and Nursing.
Vaughan says his greatest fulfillment related to his job is helping those in need whether a student, faculty, staff, or guest speaker. He loves a good challenge when something needs to be repaired, so he has acquired the name of “Mr. Fix It” over the years.
Having grown up in south Jackson, Vaughan is a lifelong resident of the Jackson area. He has been happily married to Lisa Vaughan, also a SON employee, for over 27 years. They have two children, Sarah who is a nurse in the UMMC PICU and Preston, a student at Ole Miss. His mother, Joyce Addy, retired from UMMC after working years in the Department of Surgery and his’ niece, Haley Williams, currently works in the PICU. So, when he says UMMC is like a family, it truly is family.
Vaughan has been actively involved with the Boys Scouts of America since he and his son joined in 2006. Preston earned his Eagle Scout award in 2017. Vaughan spends countless hours volunteering in various areas of scouting. Over the years, he has served as Cubmaster, Troop Advancement Chair, Troop Committee Chair, District Committee member, Unit Commissioner, Assistant District Commissioner, and District Commissioner. Today, he is the Assistant Council Commissioner, member of the Region Sixteen Outdoor Activities Committee National Camp Accreditation Program team, and Committee Member for Advancement and Recognition for the Andrew Jackson Council. Vaughan has been awarded numerous scouting awards over the years including the distinctive Silver Beaver award. Other than Scouting, Vaughan's hobbies include spending time with family, traveling, genealogy, and small woodworking projects.
