I wanted a program that would expose me to a wide variety of pathology, and I felt like Jackson would offer this. Being the only children’s hospital in the state of Mississippi and the diverse patient population UMMC has, I definitely felt like this program would prepare me well to do medical work abroad. Most importantly though, I wanted a program that was supportive with a family-like atmosphere. I wanted a program that had a healthy environment to learn and grow in throughout the next four years.
I am still trying to decide exactly what I want to do, possibly a fellowship. The ultimate goal is to be involved with medical mission work either with Red Cross, Doctors without Borders, or setting up my own organization.
In my free time I love to do just about anything outdoors. I love kayaking, running, and since buying a home I have found I love gardening, so that’s my newest hobby. I really enjoy doing different races: mud runs, color runs, 5ks/10ks, and finally trying to make time for my first half this year.
