Residency Personnel

Kayla R. Stover, PharmD, FCCP, FIDSA, BCIDP, BCPS

Kayla Stover is a professor of Pharmacy Practice at UMMC. Kayla graduated from Ohio Northern University in 2007, completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency at West Virginia University Hospital in 2008, and her PGY2 Infectious Diseases residency at UMMC in 2009. She has been the residency program director since 2012. Kayla shares rounding duties on the Adult Infectious Diseases consult team. Her responsibilities include monitoring ID consult patients, including recommending diagnostic tests, microbiology, labs or therapy changes based on test results or patient response. Additional responsibilities at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy and at UMMC include prospective audit and feedback, education of health care providers, coordination of the PGY2 ID residency, and involvement in practice-based research.

Katie E. Barber, PharmD

Katie Barber is an associate professor of Pharmacy Practice at UMMC. She completed her PGY1 at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, La., in 2011, PGY2 in infectious diseases at Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, Mich., in 2012, and an Infectious Diseases PK/PD fellowship at Wayne State University in Detroit in 2014. Katie serves as a clinical pharmacist at UMMC, sharing rounding duties on the Adult Infectious Diseases Consult team. Her responsibilities include monitoring ID consult patients, including recommending diagnostic tests, microbiology, labs or therapy changes based on test results or patient response. Katie also serves as a member of the resident research committee and helps provide oversight for lab-based projects.

David A. Cretella, PharmD, BCIDP

David Cretella is a clinical pharmacy specialist and lead pharmacist of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at UMMC. He obtained his PharmD at the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. He completed his PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at St. Joseph's/Candler in Savannah, Ga., and his PGY2 infectious diseases residency at UMMC. His responsibilities include policy development, prospective audit and feedback, education of health care providers in antimicrobial stewardship, conducting practice-based research, and precepting residents during stewardship learning experiences.

Jamie L. Wagner, PharmD, BCPS, BCIDP

Jamie Wagner is a clinical associate professor of Pharmacy Practice at UMMC. She completed her PharmD degree at Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy in 2012, her PGY1 Pharmacy residency at Henry Ford Hospital in 2013, and her Infectious Diseases Pharmacotherapy Outcomes fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital and Wayne State University in 2015. Jamie serves as an antimicrobial stewardship pharmacist at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital, where she engages physicians and nurses in efforts to protect antimicrobial effectiveness and optimize antimicrobial use in patients throughout the hospital. Her responsibilities to ensure appropriate antibiotic use include engaging and training the pharmacy department, responding to real-time rapid diagnostic results, participating in stewardship-related research, tracking and reporting antimicrobial use, educating other healthcare providers, and utilizing a real-time facility-specific dashboard for reporting stewardship metrics for all hospital employees. Jamie also serves as a member of the health-system antimicrobial stewardship committee, local antimicrobial stewardship committee, and research coordinator for the PGY1 pharmacy resident research program. Jamie utilizes her research skill set to enhance the PGY2 ID resident's scholarly activities.

Andrew B. Watkins, PharmD, BCIDP

Andrew Watkins is the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program pharmacist leader at St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Mississippi before completing his PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency at St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital and his PGY2 Infectious Diseases residency at Nebraska Medicine. His responsibilities include coordinating antimicrobial stewardship efforts at St. Dominic and for the FMOL Health System, which entails prospective audit and feedback, policy and protocol development, implementation of stewardship initiatives, antimicrobial use tracking and reporting, and education of frontline staff on ID- and antimicrobial stewardship-related topics. He also precepts PGY1 and PGY2 antimicrobial stewardship learning experiences.

Mary Joyce B. Wingler, PharmD, BCIDP (Residency Program Coordinator)

Mary Joyce Wingler is an antimicrobial stewardship pharmacist at UMMC. Mary Joyce graduated from Auburn University’s Harrison School of Pharmacy in 2016. Following pharmacy school, she completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at East Alabama Medical Center in 2017 and a PGY2 Infectious Diseases residency at UMMC in 2018. As a member of the antimicrobial stewardship team, her responsibilities include prospective audit and feedback, education of health care providers, policy development, and conducting practice-based research. In addition, she co-precepts pharmacy students and residents on the antimicrobial stewardship rotation.
