Forever and Ever for Kids, with surgical teams specially trained in pediatrics.
UMMC surgeons understand that children are not miniature adults. Pediatric patients have special needs, both physical and emotional. Our Children’s of Mississippi’s care team is dedicated to making young patients as comfortable as possible while reducing parents' concerns and apprehensions.
Pediatric specialties that perform operations include general surgery, urology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, dentistry, gastroenterology, craniofacial, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, pulmonology, hematology, oncology and fetal medicine. Thousands of ambulatory and inpatient surgeries are performed each year at the state’s only hospital for children.
At Children’s of Mississippi, anesthesiology is designed with children’s health and comfort in mind. Sedation is used when needed, but strategies ranging from medical play to driving battery-operated cars to procedures help children cope with surgery and related procedures.
State-of-the-art operating suites
Pediatric surgeries are performed in the operating suites housed at the Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower. These large suites are equipped with advanced technology that supports the complex surgeries, such as open-heart procedures and transplants, that our world-class surgical teams offer Mississippi’s kids.
After surgery, children recover in the post anesthesia care unit (PACU) where patients are in sight of the central nurses’ station for careful monitoring.
