We’re Forever and Ever for Kids, including the newest ones.
The state's only Level IV academic tertiary newborn/neonatal facility devoted to the health and well-being of newborns can be found at UMMC. The newborn medicine program provides comprehensive care for babies delivered at Wiser as well as for those transferred from other hospitals in Mississippi and neighboring states.
The self-contained newborn nursery, intermediate care nursery (ICN) and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) features around-the-clock specially trained physicians. In addition, all subspecialties, including neonatology, pediatric neurology, infectious disease, gastroenterology, surgery, genetics, endocrinology, cardiology and others are in-house 24 hours a day. The specially trained staff includes neonatal nurse practitioners, nurse educators, discharge planning nurses and social workers.
Major surgeries, even those requiring ECMO, can be done in-house. In other words, our small patients stay within our walls to receive the specialized care they need.
As part of the state's only academic medical center, our newborn facilities offer state-of-the-art equipment and advanced treatments based on the latest research. A neonatal laboratory and a specialized pharmacy also are maintained on the self-contained unit.
Mississippi’s tiniest patients deserve to have their loved ones nearby. The Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower at Children’s of Mississippi offers private NICU rooms equipped with furnishing and bathrooms, including showers, so parents can stay with their children.
