Director's Welcome

Juan C. Duchesne, MD, FACS, FCCM, FCC, Division ChiefWelcome, and thank you for visiting the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Our division is honored to serve as the state’s premier center for trauma, burn, emergency surgery, and critical care.

We are a dedicated team of full-time clinical and research faculty, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary collaborators united by a commitment to excellence. We lead UMMC’s one-year Surgical Critical Care Fellowship and provide essential training for general surgery residents, medical students, and rotating residents from multiple specialties.

Working in close partnership with the UMMC Mississippi Burn Center and the Anesthesia Critical Care service, our division manages a high-acuity 20-bed ICU with more than 1,000 admissions each year. We oversee trauma care for adult and pediatric patients statewide, support the only dedicated children’s hospital in Mississippi, and provide specialized burn and critical care for the region.

We are passionate about delivering outstanding, compassionate, patient-centered care to every individual we serve. Our diverse backgrounds and experiences strengthen our mission and sustain the culture of excellence we strive to uphold daily.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our division. We welcome the opportunity to collaborate, educate, and serve.

Warm regards,
