Why did you choose UMMC?: UMMC offers everything I wanted in an orthopaedic training program: prioritized clinical work, early autonomy, elite department leadership, strong resident work ethic, a cohesive resident culture, and high standards for residents in the OR. The department leadership pushes residents in this program to be elite surgeons. I feel that the surgical experience gained on trauma service is where residents really learn the fundamentals of orthopaedic surgery, and the trauma experience at UMMC is second to none. Not only are we the only Level 1 trauma center in the state, but we also have some of the best trauma attendings in the nation who are well respected in the orthopaedic community at large. Another aspect of training at UMMC I highly value is location. The cost of living in Mississippi is very affordable, I can get to work in 15 minutes or less no matter where I live, and I’m relatively close to my family. I consider the opportunity to train and serve here at UMMC for residency a blessing and a privilege.
