Department of Neurosurgery

Welcome to the University of Mississippi Medical Center's Department of Neurosurgery. Neurological surgery is a specialized surgical field encompassing the treatment of all aspects of the central and peripheral nervous system as well as the associated bony structures, the skull and spine.

Our mission is to be the preferred neurosurgical service provider in Mississippi by offering innovative, cost-effective services and exceeding customer expectation. We commit to maximizing the health and independence of Mississippians with neurological injury, illness, disability or pain through ongoing education and research while caring for each individual with compassion, dignity and respect.

The Department of Neurosurgery is unique in Mississippi in that we offer the only:

  • Level 1 trauma center with 24/7 in-house neurosurgical coverage;
  • Comprehensive pediatric neurosurgery service;
  • Vascular neurosurgery service where neurosurgery offers both open and endovascular management of neurovascular pathology;
  • Neurosurgery residency training program;
  • Multidisciplinary neuroendocrine service/transnasal endoscopic pituitary surgery.

Our neurosurgeons are highly skilled physicians. Most are fellowship trained, and all are board certified or board eligible in Neurosurgery. We are assisted by an enthusiastic staff of specialty nurses and nurse practitioners, each having special interest and experience in the health care needs of neurosurgical patients.

Finally, we host the neurosurgery residency training program, where young doctors learn how to provide neurosurgical care in a compassionate and caring manner.
