Why did you choose UMMC?: The people, both the patients and the faculty, are the reason that I chose to do Med/peds at UMMC. At UMMC, the patient population is incredible. Not only are our patients generally very kind and grateful for our care, but they are also very sick. A lot of the time, most patients have very puzzling and unique pathology. The acuity of patient care is high. It is challenging, but it gives us the opportunity to learn how to manage very sick patients quickly and more independently. Over time you realize how quickly you become comfortable with managing them. You’ll be an old pro in no time! Having the opportunity to care for these patients is rewarding for the soul and an exercise for your mind. Our Med/peds program is also one of a kind. Our leadership is full of some of the most wonderful people you will ever meet. Not only are they fantastic physicians, but they are also some of the most amazing and impressive human beings I have ever met outside the hospital as well. The residents in the Med/peds program are also some of the kindest, smartest, goofiest and most helpful residents you will find. There is always one of them around to brighten your day or offer a lending hand when times get tough. The residents are one of the primary reasons that I changed my mind from another specialty to do Med/peds. These are my people, and I can’t imagine training at any other institution. It truly is a privilege to get to learn from my patients, leadership and colleagues every single day.

What you like to do in free time?
Shopping is my guilty pleasure. If I’m not at work or at home, I’m probably at Hobby Lobby. I enjoy decorating my home with the seasons. Cooking semi-homemade meals. Being outdoors when the weather is nice-walking or biking on our local trails, boating on the reservoir or picnics with friends/family. You can occasionally find me at the gym depending on my monthly rotation.
