What do you like about the program?
I chose UMMC Derm for its specialization in rural dermatology and especially for the great mentors. Dr. Adam Byrd runs our rural dermatology clinic in Louisville, Mississippi, part of the first rural dermatology curriculum in the nation. Residents perform 2-3 surgeries per day and help run a clinic serving up to 50 new and return patients daily. Surgical dermatology is a focus of our rural clinic with many opportunities for residents to excise and repair skin cancers including large tumors and cases on the face. We frequently manage complex medical dermatology patients including lupus, dermatomyositis, and bullous diseases along with rare genodermatoses in pediatric patients. In Jackson, I work closely with Dr. Bob Brodell, our chairman, who facilitates resident growth through patient care, volunteerism, research, and community involvement. He is always a text message or phone call away, 24/7, 365.
