OME Spotlight
DeShanna Dixon joined the Office of Medical Education on July 5, 2026, as an education administrator. A native of Utica, Mississippi, she earned a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Jackson State University and a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership from Belhaven University.
With more than a decade of experience in education, DeShanna began her career as a K–12 educator, teaching 4th-6th grade students before transitioning to Higher Education. Over the past five years, she has served in student support roles, including Writing Center Coordinator and Student Services Coordinator for Career & Technical Education, where she led student engagement, advising, and assessment initiatives. She previously served on the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Writing Center Association and currently serves on the Advisory Committee for the Hinds County School District Career & Technical Center. DeShanna and her family live in rural Hinds County, where they enjoy riding four-wheelers, horses and attending sporting events together.
