Rowland Medical Library Spotlights: Journal Citation Reports

Rowland Medical Library provides access to Journal Citation Reports (JCR), which allows you to critically evaluate journals with quantifiable, statistical information based on citation data.  JCR measures the citation data of journals indexed in the research database, Web of Science. JCR can also generate reports with journal rankings and impact factors by a specific subject.

A journal impact factor is a metric that measures how often the average article in a journal has been cited in a particular year or time period. The higher the journal impact factor score, the more frequently articles from that journal are being cited by other publications. You can use this number to evaluate or compare a journal’s relative importance to others in the same field or see how frequently articles are cited to determine which journals may best meet your needs.

How can you use Journal Citations Reports?

  • Identify the core journals in your academic field or clinical specialty
  • Identify journals to submit articles for publishing
  • Identify journals relevant to a research interest
  • Evaluate the quality of a journal

Select Journal Citation Reports (JCR) from Rowland Medical Library’s A-Z Databases to access.
