IMPACT on Rural Medicine Education: Highlights from 2024 Symposium

The School of Medicine's IMPACT the RACE program hosted its third annual rural medicine education symposium, "The Rural Impact 2024," at the Westin Jackson on February 9-11. The event was free of charge. Rakesh Patel gives a report about the symposium.

Residency Director’s Survey Reaffirms MD Graduates’ Readiness

Each year for over a decade, the Office of Medical Education has administered a survey of the residency directors of programs where our recent graduates matched. This short survey sought to gain the perspective of program directors on how prepared our graduates are for their first year as a resident. Dr. Buckley explains what the results show.

Non-Involvement of Providers of Student Health Services in Student Assessment

The health professionals who provide health services, including psychiatric/psychological counseling, to a medical student have no involvement in the academic assessment or promotion of the medical student receiving those services.

DABE Research Day Announcement

The Spring 2024 SOM Faculty Development Series sessions are scheduled for April 19 and May 2.

Totally Flipping Out

Dr. Ricker explains how a flipped classroom can create a dynamic classroom experience. Students complete introductory work prior to the class session, whether it’s watching a video, completing a reading assignment or previewing a presentation. This allows students to come into the class session with a foundational knowledge on the topic being presented.
