Diagnostic Residency Program

Main Content

Intern Year

Our program is a categorical (1+4) program with 2 months of radiology rotations during a 1 year of internal medicine intern year, allowing for early exposure to our department.

Resident Education

Resident education is at the heart of our program. Residents who train at the UMMC's Department of Radiology Residency Program graduate with a solid set of imaging skills and the ability to practice radiology in any setting they choose. Didactic sessions are held daily during the noon hour covering all subspecialties. Physics curriculum is through the Core Physics Review program. Additionally, our residents benefit from case conferences during each subspecialty rotation, journal clubs, our grand rounds visiting lectureship series, and our chair's leadership lecture series.

Collaboration and teaching

All of our rotations feature on-site faculty, and residents will learn vast imaging skills and the importance of patient care. Our program provides an opportunity to learn, while building collaborative relationships with attending physicians in the Department of Radiology and other medical fields. Build your teaching skills in our program while providing interactive education to our medical students and other learners.

Subspecialize, with or without a fellowship

UMMC offers a residency training program that combines general radiology with on-demand radiology subspecialties. When you graduate our program, you will have the confidence and the know-how necessary for an independent practice as well as to move into a fellowship program of your choosing. With opportunities for a nuclear medicine pathway, ESIR, mini-fellowships, and a PhD program during residency, there are multiple avenues for tailored training to suit your career needs.

"I'm proud to have completed my residency training at UMMC. The excellent teaching and the volume and complexity of cases prepared me to succeed in my fellowship and practice. The department's dedication to patient care, education and research inspired me to return as a faculty member."
