Main ContentMusculoskeletal Fellowship
The one-year musculoskeletal radiology fellowship at UMMC is designed to provide exposure to the wide range of musculoskeletal imaging. As the only academic medical center in Mississippi, we evaluate the full spectrum of MSK pathology. Our medical center sees a wide variety of conditions, including sarcomas, metabolic bone diseases and congenital conditions. Our orthopedic department has specialists in trauma, sports medicine, joint replacement, spine, hand and foot/ankle surgery. We have also partnered with a large local orthopedic clinic to provide a high volume of sports medicine MRI examinations. Opportunities are also available in MSK ultrasound and procedures.
Our faculty consists of all fellowship-trained MSK radiologists. Our fellows will be supervised in advanced imaging, particularly MRI, but will be able to function independently in radiography and basic procedures. Weekend and evening call is taken at an attending physician level, with MSK fellows providing resident supervision and final interpretation of general radiologic exams. Additional internal moonlighting opportunities are also available.
Our fellowship will provide ample opportunities for one-on-one instruction, as well as didactic lectures presented monthly by the faculty. Also, participation in outside MSK educational activities is encouraged, including the Society of Skeletal Radiology. Faculty supervision and instruction balanced with independent interpretation and resident supervision will provide an excellent transition from residency training to academic or private practice.
