Program Eligibility
Our program begins at the PGY-2 level. Applicants must successfully complete a PGY-1 year that includes at least 10 months of direct patient care in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting at an ACGME-accredited program in the United States before entering our program.
Medical students applying to our PGY-2 program must simultaneously apply for a transitional or preliminary year residency program. This required clinical year may be completed in any qualifying ACGME-accredited program. The Department of Internal Medicine at UMMC also offers preliminary positions that meet this requirement.
Graduate School Requirement
Successful applicants must apply for and receive admission to the UMMC School of Graduate Studies in Health Sciences before entering the Preventive Medicine Residency Program.
Additional Eligibility Information
Applicants who graduated from medical school more than five years ago are rarely considered for interviews unless they have been actively practicing medicine in the United States and are fully licensed.
Applicants must be eligible for medical licensure in Mississippi. Review licensure requirements through the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure.
