Women's Health Research Center
Our research in Mississippi is helping women worldwide! The five greatest health challenges for women are heart disease and stroke, high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes, high blood pressure during pregnancy and low birth weight babies, and cancer. The Women’s Health Research Center is studying these diseases and helping develop treatments tailored to women.
The health of women affects the health of men, children, and communities worldwide. Yet, women’s health issues are underfunded and understudied. Research studies often focus on males, resulting in less effective treatments for women. The Women’s Health Research Center is one of a handful of Centers trying to change this.
The Mission of the Women’s Health Research Center is threefold:
- to study diseases in women across their lifespan, with a focus on heart disease and high blood pressure.
- to translate our research into better healthcare for women right now.
- to train the next generation of researchers and clinicians to analyze gender differences in basic research and clinical trials.
By helping women, we help the world and Mississippi!
